20
year old graduate student Scott Douglas MacIntyre recently found out he would be flown from
London to Washington DC, received in the White House by First Lady Laura
Bush, and presented with a scholarship and award as one of three scholar recipients
of the 2005 Mary P. Oenslager Scholastic Achievement Award sponsored by the US Library of
Congress and RFBD (Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic). The experience
in mid February, now only a vivid memory etched in time, was according to Scott probably
the most surreal moment of his life. "I never imagined I would find myself face
to face with the First Lady, personally handing her a CD."
